Shortly after waking from my jet lag haze…I was informed with the news of Prince’s passing; a saddened world and purple city. I spent most of the day driving around Minneapolis, listening to a Prince appreciation marathon and echoing the sentiment of millions, worldwide, thinking…”the world has truly lost a legend”. I don’t remember how old I was when I heard “1999,” “Do Me Baby” or “Little Red Corvette” and I’m not really sure at what point I began associating the color purple with a musical icon but I do know that Prince has left the world in a better and place than it was before him. I drove two of my friends and myself into the city, just before 11pm to witness First Avenue and all of the love surrounding the purple-lit buildings, where many tears were shed and stories shared of people’s love for Prince and how his music had affected them. We didn’t make it inside First Ave. but it was enough to be surrounded by all the love in the streets that night. With so much chaos in the world…its so settling to see people coming together- a city coming together to celebrate the life and love of a man that has affected the world in such a great way. RIP Prince…and thank you.
